Setting up your Blog
I won’t go into why setting up a Blog is the first step in creating an online presence but if you do the research you will find in most cases, this is the wisest first step for a budding internet entrepreneur.
The software of choice to satisfy most requirements is a piece of software called WordPress. WordPress is very well supported with an active online community and many third party themes and plugins which can extend it’s functionality.
Probably the easiest way to install WordPress is to use a web hosting service that supports it and allows for an automated installation option. There are hundreds to choose from but I have chosen to use Dreamhost who offer an included domain name registration.
I wont go into too much detail about the process as it is self explainatory and you have access to support online if you get stuck.
OK, so now you have your blog set up, what next.
There are 2 things I suggest you do right away before getting stuck into putting up content:
- Set up permalinks to make them them search engine friendly. What this means, instead of having a URL like www.xyz.com/?=p1 you will have www.xyz.com/my-first-post. This will make it easier for people searching for keywords to find your content. See video tutorial video at www.tubetorial.com
- Install the Adsense-Deluxe WordPress Plugin to work with your blog . This allows you to insert advertising within your posts where they will be more likely to attract clicks which in turn means more profit for you. There is a easy to understand video tutorial at www.tubetorial.com.
Well, that’s about it for now. I am sure you will have plenty to explore inside WordPress to get familiar with it.
